The Strand Barnstaple
The Strand Barnstaple.
The Strand Barnstaple is approx six miles from us. It is the most recently renovated part of Town, The Strand is a wide pedestrian promenade joining on from the High Street and the start of some award winning restaurants along side the scenic River Taw.
With no traffic it is perfect for alfreso dining and in the warmer weather feels like a plaza in a Mediterranean town spread out with tables and parasols and visitors and cyclists having a pit stop on route 27 of the Tarka Trail and shoppers stopping to drink and lunch. Custom House Restaurant is an excellent place to build your own burger and Lilico’s for their coffee and Tapas and outdoor seating or an afternoon tea at the popular Tea By The Taw. Can Also recommend in Barnstaple, Monty’s Kitchen for authentic Caribbean and The Boston Tea Party Cafe for a delicious healthy and different breakfast options in a relaxed atmosphere.
A lovely afternoon, then sit on the many benches lined along the river looking out to the estuary and the beautiful old bridge watching the many seabirds. Walk along the end on the Strand towards The Square and visit the museum and see the Albert Memorial Clock. A little further on is the beautiful Rock Park. A great safe place for the kids to have a run around and a break from shopping. There is a skate park, bowling green, tennis courts and football pitches.
Rock Park is a lovely old Park with mature trees of sycamore, cherry, beech, willow, lime, mountain ash and horse chestnut. Nice areas to sit in the shade on sunny days or lie on the well kept grounds and enjoy the rays.
There is a regular bus service to The Strand.
