Great Torrington North Devon Just a short journey by car or bus ride from Holmsleigh is the Great Torrington market town famous for being one of the last battle sites of the English Civil war of 1646. The church still has signs of this battle as it is where it all ended when stored gunpowder accidentally exploded.
There is a museum which is free of charge. Reenactments take place throughout the year.

The Puffing Billy Tarka Trail
The former railway station and now railway themed pub is a great stop off for refreshments along the Tarka Trail. If you want to start your cycle ride from here, you can hire cycles from the station yard, where you can leave your car and set off towards Meeth in one direction or Bideford in the other. Pack a picnic or stop off at the many outstanding cafes. Yarde Cafe offers true organic local produce and stone baked pizzas. Special diets all thoughtfully covered. Using the very best produce, Yarde Orchard sausages, Burford Brown eggs, craft draft real ales from The Forge Brewery Hartland. Makes for a real treat.
